Building Envelope Technician

Building Envelope Consulting, LLC (BEC), is a Virginia-based consulting firm that specializes in the diagnosis of building envelope defects and the developement of roofing/waterproofing/building exteriror repairs and remediation.


Our mission is to provide superior and comprehensive consulting services for every facet of exisitng buildign envelopes, which includes facade, balconies, parking garages, windows, roofs, plazas, swimming pools and foundation, foundations crawl spaces, subsurface waterproofing, and drainage systems. We also provide insurance claim, peer review, failure investigation, and expert testimony services. 


Our dog friendly office is where we meet once a week (typically), so you must be able to organize your time and productivity! Travel (company car available) will be required to provide services to our clients in the Northern Virginia, DC, and Baltimore, MD regions. Our days are spent as innovative, industry-leading specialists in the diagnosis of building envelope defects and the development of roofing/waterproofing/building exterior repairs and remediation processes. The technician is responsible for onsite review, observation, and the development of detailed reporting on assigned client projects.

The technician position is full-time, salaried (salary dependent upon experience and will range from $20- $28 hourly).


Ideal candidates: 

  • Maintain quality standards by approving incoming materials against submittals, in-process production, and finished products; recording quality results

  • Must have professional communication skills, both written and verbal, applicable to a diverse group

  • Results-driven ability to work without direct supervision.

  • Must be highly detail oriented and organized.

  • Must have a physical ability for daily onsite work including (but not limited to) set up of ladders and safely and professionally accessing pitched roofs and other construction job site areas.

  • Must have valid driving record, insurance, and reliable vehicle to support visiting project job sites throughout V/D/M.

  • Must be experienced with computers, cameras, and mobile telephones (Mac knowledge a plus)


Priority consideration given to:

  • Experience with construction engineering, the construction consulting industry, and/or building material testing

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices used in reading construction diagrams and specifications, with preference given to those with relevant building envelope knowledge

  • Registered Roofing Observer (R.R.O.), preferred

  • Technical experience to confidently use observation equipment and tools to industry and firm standards

  • Bilingual (Spanish), a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree, a plus
